Bet Types

On this page you will find a number of different bet types that are currently on offer with Uk bookmakers.
There is a detailed description of the bet as well as an example and a calculation of how to work that it out.

How To Place A Single Bet:

A Single is a one selection bet. You can choose the bet to be a win single or an each way single (If the event allows this bet). To gain a return on a win single the selection you have choosen has to win their event.

Example Bet: Chelsea to beat Portsmouth in 90 mins at odds of 1/4. If you Stake £50 you would win £12.50 plus your £50 stake returned, so your total return would be £62.50 for this bet. It is calculated as 1 ÷ 4 = 0.25 x £50 stake = £12.50 win.

How To Place A Double Bet:

A double is a two selection bet but is only classed as 1 actual bet. You can choose the bet to be a win double or an each way double (if the event allows this). To gain a return on a win double bet both the selections you have choosen have to win their events. A double bet does not have to be limited to one event type. For example you could back a horse to win and also a football team to win.

Example Bet: Win double Phil Taylor to beat James Wade at odds of 1/3 and Castleford to beat Wigan at odds of 6/1. If you were to stake £15 you would win £140. With this bet the stake return is part of the pay out as it is worked out using the decimal odds system.

It is calculated as:
1 ÷ 3 = 0.33333 + 1 = 1.33333

6 ÷ 1 = 6 + 1 = 7

Now with the totals of each sum you multiply them together to get your odds then multiply the answer by the stake placed 1.33333 x 7 = 9.333 (odds) x £15 Stake = £140 win.

How To Place A Treble Bet:

A treble is a 3 selection bet but is only classed as 1 actual bet. You can choose the bet to be a win treble or an each way treble (if the event allows this) To gain a return on a win treble all three of the selections you have choosen have to win their events. To gain a return on an each way treble all your selections have to be placed according to the place terms of that event. An each way treble will still only pay on place terms even if 2 of the selections win and the other is placed. As with a double the treble does not have to be limited to one event type.

Example Bet: Lewis Hamilton to win the Spanish grand prix at 4/1, Tiger woods to win the players championship at 17/2, Roger Federer to win the Estoril open at 1/3. If you were to stake £10 you would win £633.33. This bet also has the stake return as part of the pay out as it uses the decimal odds system.

It is calculated as:
4 ÷ 1 = 4 + 1 = 5

17 ÷ 2 = 8.5 + 1 = 9.5

1 ÷ 3 = 0.33333 + 1 = 1.33333

Now with the totals of each sum you multiply them together to get your odds then multiply the answer by the stake placed. 5 x 9.5 x 1.33333 = 63.33 (odds) x £10 Stake = £633.33 win.

How To Place An Accumulator Bet:

An accumulator bet is a 4 selection or more bet but is only classed as one bet. You can choose the bet to be a win accumulator or an each way accumulator (if the event allows this). To gain a return on a win accumulator the 4 selections or how ever many selections you have choosen all have to win thier event. To gain a return on an each way accumulator all your selections have to be placed according to the place terms of that event. An each way accumulator will still only pay on place terms even if one selction is placed and all the other selections win. This bet also does not have to be limited to one event type.

Example Bet: Spell Bound to Win Britains got talent at 7/2, Danielle to win over the rainbow at 13/8, Ireland to win the Eurovision song contest at 25/1, Andy Murray to win sports personality of the year 2010 at 5/1 if you were to stake £1 you would win £1846.26 This bet has the stake return as part of the payout as it uses decimal odds system.

It is calculated as:
7 ÷ 2 = 3.5 + 1 = 4.5

13 ÷ 8 = 1.63 + 1 = 2.63

25 ÷ 1 = 25 + 1 = 26

5 ÷ 1 = 5 + 1 = 6

Now with the totals of each sum you multiply them together to get your odds then multiply the answer by the stake placed. 4.5 x 2.63 x 26 x 6 = 1846.26 (odds) x £1 = £1846.26 win.

How To Place A Trixie Bet:

The Trixie bet is a 3 selection bet which consists of 4 bets, 3 doubles and a treble. As the trixie consists of 4 bets you would now have to pay for each of those bets: For example £10 on each double and the one treble would be a total stake of £40. You can choose the bet to be a win trixie or an each way trixie (if the event allows this). To gain a return you would need two of the selections to win their event, this would pay 1 double. To get all 4 of the bets to pay you would need the 3 selections to win their events. This bet also does not have to be limited to one event type.

Example Bet: Cardiff To Beat Leicester in 90 mins at odds of Evs, Fulham to beat Athletico Madrid at odds of 5/2 and Aviate to win the 14.40 at York at odds of 9/4. If you were to stake £5 per bet (£20 in total) and all 3 selections won you would win £238.13. This bet has the stake return as part of the payout as it uses decimal odds system.

It is calculated as:
1 ÷ 1 = 1 + 1 = 2

5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 + 1 = 3.5

9 ÷ 4 = 2.25 + 1 = 3.25

As we know the Trixie is made up of 4 bets so to get the total return we have to work out what each individual bet returned

1st double: 2 x 3.5 = 7 (odds) x £5 stake = £35

2nd double 2 x 3.25 = 6.5 (odds) x £5 Stake = 32.50

3rd double 3.5 x 3.25 = 11.38 (odds) x £5 stake = £56.88

Treble 2 x 3.5 x 3.25 = 22.75 (odds) x £5 stake = £113.75

Now all you need to do is add the totals for each individual bet together and this will give you your total return which is £238.13
